Baruk of the Bidayuh LonghouseBaruk

The baruk is the main section of the longhouse. It serves as the headman's house, community hall, meeting room for village men, and also guest house. In the middle of the baruk, is usually a fireplace.

The baruk is also where they hang the skulls of their enemies.

Rooms

The other residents of the longhouse live in rooms. In a longhouse there will be usually a row of hundreds of rooms. In front of the rooms is a spacious tanju (verandah). The verandah is where they hang out to pass their free times, hold religious functions, festivals etc.
